Because it's late, I can't sleep, and I want to play along...

As seen in [livejournal.com profile] krazykitkat's LJ post, found here:

five word west wing drabble-a-thon

The rules are simple. Only five words. Encapsulate a character, pairing or moment in any way you want.

I give you my humble, half-awake ramblings on these West Wing characters. Five words for ...

CJ Cregg: Sass, awkwardness and elegance intertwined.

Jed Bartlet and Toby Ziegler: Fighting for the right words.

Josh Lyman and Leo McGarry: Not only his father's friend.

CJ Cregg and Toby Ziegler:

1. Uncontainable joy. "Dance with me!"

2. Soaking-wet CJ. Best day ever.

And finally, though many will illuminate him better than I can, my attempts at five words for Toby Ziegler:

1. Drinking in the darkness, alone.

2. Integrity: always trying, never satisfied.

3. Hug only when words fail.

4. Hell is a blank page.

5. Josh's blood won't wash off.

In the light of morning and a more energized brain, I'll probably hate most of these and wish I could have done better. I only wish I could pay tribute to these wonderful characters even more.

These are awesome, Sherry. You pegged CJ just right :) And I love #4 for Toby (Hell IS a blank page...)

It makes me want to do more for CJ, but I'm trying to work up a really good 5-word sentence that involves "Root Canal" or "The Jackal" And Leo deserves better than my "Big Block of Cheese Guy" The brain needs to wake up a little yet ;)

And you're right - I am SUCH a slacker ;D

Yay, you! These are great.

Soaking-wet CJ - oh yeah...

And wonderful Toby.

Oooh, each one of these makes me want to know them, even though I've only seen the show a couple of times. Brava, baby! Brava!!!!

Hell is a blank page, My goddess, that is perfect.

Go you. ♥

p.s. e-mail in process. :) you rock.

Thank you so much, Angie! I'm glad you like them.

Toby #3 is especially brilliant.

*smiles* I wanted to capture something about words because that's Toby, but nothing seemed right until that one popped into my head. I almost put an italics emphasis on the word 'only' in that sentence, but decided against it because it seemed like overkill. LOL.

Thank you, Jordan! I really appreciate that, because I love these characters so much and definitely wanted to encapsulate them as best as I could. But as the clock ticked on, my brain got fuzzier and fuzzier. Heee.

I probably could have stayed up all night, playing with this exercise, though. It's pretty fun. You should check out the link I provided -- some other people came up with great ones for almost every WW character you can imagine. Very cool. :)

haven't done it yet can you believe it????

That is a tragedy of highest proportions.

Heeeee. Maybe we can watch an episode on Creativity Night... I need West Wing inspiration to complete the edit on an old story I've been trying to 'upgrade.' *GRIN*

Seriously though, thanks for the kudos. I like that it makes you want to watch the show. This whole wacky writing exercise makes me want to watch it, too! Not a bad thing at all. :)

P.S. *waves at you* Good morning, Sunshine! Have you had your caramel latte yet today? *wicked laugh*

Thanks, Liz! I almost went with 'intelligence' instead of 'sass' for CJ, but even though I do think CJ is very smart, I thought 'sass' seemed much more appropriate in order to fully encapsulate her personality. Besides, intelligence is a given. *GRIN*

I'm delighted that you like the 'blank page' one for Toby. I just wanted to find the right words that convey his mindset AND include a hint to his writing abilities, because that's part of the essence of Toby to me. That one came to me very late, as I was about to give up and go to bed. *laughs*

I would LOVE to read your sentences for CJ and Leo and any other character that strikes your fancy! I'm already laughing at the words 'root canal' and 'the jackal' and 'block of cheeeeese' so I think you're on the right track. I have no doubt you'll think of just the right thing as soon as you wake up this morning. hahaha

And you're right - I am SUCH a slacker

HAHAHA I wondered if you saw that comment I left on your LJ. At any rate, aren't we all slackers? I sure have been.

Hope you're having a good start to your day. :)

Well, you started it! *laughing uproariously* It's all your fault that I stayed up late doing this instead of going to bed like a sensible girl. ;D And yours were perfection. I was so excited to see you posting.

Soaking-wet CJ - oh yeah...

HAHAHHAA That one tickled me. It's not exactly Toby's voice (I can't imagine him saying 'best day ever' unless he meant it sarcastically, LOL) but I think he'd agree with the sentiment of it in this particular case. I love that moment, and I wanted to capture something that demonstrated the fun silliness of their friendship (and give a hint of underlying sexy appreciation to the both of them, heee). I admit I cheated a little bit... I'm not sure 'soaking-wet' is actually one word but I couldn't think of any other word that worked nearly as well, and hey, you can make one word out of anything if you just use a hyphen! *GRIN*

And wonderful Toby.

Can you tell he's my favorite? ;D

Thank you, AF!! *BIG GRIN* I love hearing that, and hey, if it gets you to watch the show (the first four seasons, anyway), then I'd be one giddy girl. I love these characters so much, I really do.

So glad you like the 'blank page' bit. You don't need to watch the show to understand that one, brilliant writer that you are. *chuckles*

I can't wait to hear from you, because -- in case you didn't know -- you rock, too. And I adore you. ♥

Now I'm off to work out, shower, and finish packing up before I hit the road back to Illinois. I've got a two-and-a-half hour drive ahead of me. Whoo! Cue up the car music! ;D

I'm happy to take responsibility for you writing :)

I'm kinda surprised Toby was first in my head.

Toby would've most definitely been thinking that in his unedited brain ;) And I was trying to work out whether I could hyphenate words too!

From: [identity profile] bardsmaid.livejournal.com
Wow, the five-word thing is a great idea! Even though I'm not familiar with the show, they're cool. (And, um that one about 'hell is a blank page'? You must have been channeling me.)

Reminds me, too, of something I ran across the other day, where someone once challenged Hemingway to come up with a story in six words. His immediate reply: 'For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.'

Heeheeeee.

Why are you surprised that Toby popped up first? Were you expecting someone else, like Danny and CJ?

Toby would've most definitely been thinking that in his unedited brain

LOL. OH yes. You just know that image stayed with him the rest of the day, even if he kept his expert poker face in the moment. *giggles at the visual of him half-laughing when she told him to turn around*

P.S. "Unedited brain." I love that.

P.S. again. I'm telling you, hyphenation's the way to go, if necessary. *nods seriously*

I know! I can just imagine the wonderful five-word drabbles you'd come up with for The X-Files. *nudge nudge* Hey, maybe that's what will help rev up your writing muse! Do a few 5-word drabbles and see if it dislodges anything. How about it, how about it, how about it? *GRIN*

By the way, did you get my feedback emails this week? I hope they sent properly while I was in Madison. (I just got back into town about two hours ago. I'm sleepy from driving.)

Thanks for reading these, even though you don't watch the show. I appreciate your encouragement. :)

I remember you telling me about that Hemingway story! That's amazing (not to mention, haunting). It really does tell a story in six words. That's talent; I'm so impressed.
