Apparently I'm a bit of a wuss tonight.

House-and-dogsitting by myself all week at my brother's. This house is so big and quiet, and it's so dark outside... I'm freaking myself out. Somebody hold me.

Hee. I'll be okay. I think.

I felt that way when I was dog-sitting for that couple in the South Hills. At least I knew the dogs would bark if anyone came around. Still. ::sends moral support::

*hugs, and feels sheepish*

Thanks for the support! :)

It's just so dead quiet here right now, and pitch black outside, and I looked up from the computer and suddenly felt all alone. It's my first night here by myself. I'm sure I'll be better and feel more comfortable with each day. But tonight it's kind of like when I first move into a new apartment, and all the sounds are new to me, and I have to get used to it and adjust and make it feel like home. You know what I mean?

Heeheeee. Like I said to Bardsmaid above, it's kind of like moving into a new apartment, you know? You're all alone, everything feels foreign, there are odd sounds and it's dark and you're not used to everything yet and it feels a little creepy, until you've been there a week or so and then it starts to feel like home. It was my first night there all by myself, so it suddenly felt a little weird. I was fine all day; I think it was just that late night darkness that got to me. And yes, I am a goofball and a bit of a wuss. LOL.

hey i know all about that! i stopped watching horror movies and reading horror books when i finaly started living by myself. and i used to love that stuff! stephen king was my hero! but now i don't want to put those images in my head--bad enough they're there already. it's just better to have more of a clean slate, you know?

also i just had a memory of me and my brother in junior high (me 14, him 12) babysitting ourselves and hearing a noise and freaking ourselves out that someone was in the house. we were cowering in the kitchen behind the counters holding sharp knives......oh the power of suggestion.

Heeee. I still like suspenseful films and books -- I just need to read them during the day. LOL.

Have you read Stephen King's occasional essays/articles in Entertainment Weekly? I love that guy -- he's so funny and smart. I think he'd be a hell of a conversationalist. (But yes, his books are scary!!)

*chuckles at you and your brother* I think we've all been there at some point, like being left alone in the house at night for the first time when we're kids. *GRIN* Definitely all about the power of suggestion. Heeeee.

oh yeah i have a subscription to ew so i read him every time he writes anything there. though i have to say i prefer his fiction. it and the stand are incredible works. but i also think he wrote his best stuff by the mid-90s so i feel like i read most of what i'd have wanted to anyway.

*shudders at the very mention of IT and runs to cower under the covers* That is probably what I consider to be his scariest book. Oh man, I would read some chapters, and when it was time for bed, I had to turn the book so the cover was face down because it freaked me out. LOL.

Yeah, I confess it's been a while since I've read his fiction. I don't think I've really been in a horror sort of mood. I prefer intrigue/suspense rather than bloody, scary stuff. But he's written some great books, that's for sure. Most of my favorites are from years gone by, though. Misery and 'Salem's Lot are two of my favorites.

How is the spooky hoouse in the light of day? :)

Actually, dog sitting sounds like a lot of fun - what kind of pooch are you puppy-sitting for?. I had friends who recently got one of those maltese/yorkie crosses (they wanted something that their youngest, Joey, wouldn't be alergic to). He is just the cutest damn thing! They named him "Bear." Big name for a dog that would fit in a teacup ;D

The spooky house is perfectly boring and safe in the light of day. *GRIN* Thanks for asking!

I'm sitting for two dogs, actually. Um... what kind are they?? One is a golden retriever; the other is kind of a mix, a bit of german shepherd, a bit of lab or something else, maybe. They were fighting this morning; I had to yell at them to knock it off. Generally, they're really sweet dogs, though.

*laughing hard* Oh, that is so cute! A big "Bear" name for an itty bitty dog. Awwwwww. :D
