I love snow.

It's not always fun to drive in, but it's pretty. And peaceful. And sledding is awesome.

However... tonight? It is freaking COLD.

The winds here have been whipping around at anywhere between 40 and 60 miles per hour. Snow is blowing all over the place. Our front door is buried in snow up to almost the doorknob. We won't be able to get out unless we use a different door or dig our way out, but to even open that door will send snow tumbling into the house, so...

Right now I'm content to stay holed up inside the house, bundled in warm blankets and thick socks, lying in bed, listening to the wind rage.

*shivers*

Stay safe, fellow Chicagoans (and all those affected by this blizzard).

We're dealing with frigid temps here in Utah (10 degrees with a "feels like" temp of -17), but we're not even getting the snow for it. Which makes me mad, cuz if it's gonna be frikkin cold, we should be getting snow for it. All the old snow is petrified and icky. We want fresh stuff!

I hope all remains safe and you don't end up completely buried! Be safe!

It's that cold and there's no snow? Wow, that's bizarre and crazy! Still... I hope you don't get dumped on like we just did. It took us forever to dig ourselves out today. I'm STILL cold.

You stay safe, too! Those temperatures in Utah are definitely freaking COLD.

Normally it doesnt get this cold very often--usually only a day or so at a time, maybe three times a winter. But today is day three, with no sign of letting up, temperature wise. Snow, we're used to-its not uncommon to get three feet of snow overnight a couple times every winter (we even had snow into April last year). Its just when it gets unbearably cold like this that we're all tempted to hole ourselves up.

The digging out however is never fun. :P There's only so much rock salt can do, sometimes... :P

Hope you stay warm. Does that mean starting the job is postponed?

Yes. I couldn't have gotten out of our driveway today if I'd tried, but thankfully my new boss emailed me early this morning and told me not to come in.

If the plows don't come through today, I may not be able to even start tomorrow instead! We just spent the last 2 hours snow-blowing and shoveling the driveway and digging a TRENCH down the sidewalks alongside the house, but if the city doesn't make it down our street to clear the roads, there's no way my aunts or I will be able to leave the house. Our vehicles would get stuck in the snow.

I was warm because of all the shoveling, but now that I'm in the house again I'm feeling chilled, so I may go take a shower to warm up a bit. BRRRR.

The snow came down and drifted so that it was up to past the front door handle! We had to go outside via the garage and dig our way out. I may post pictures. LOL.

Hope you are staying healthy and warm where you are. :)

Yikes! It reminds me of the blizzards Laura Ingalls described in The House on Plum Creek. At least you're in a house and not a dugout beside a creek. :-) Let us know how things are today when you get a chance.

LOL! I haven't read those books in AGES!

Seriously, Susan, we've got a wall of snow next to the sidewalks that run alongside the house. It's like a trench! It took us about 2 hours to dig out around the house and sidewalks and clear the front stoop (the snow got all the way past the door handle on the front door) and shovel and snow-blow the driveway. It was pretty insane. I kept thinking about you, because we've had those talks about equating writing with archaeology, and out there today I had to dig in layers like I was at an excavation site, the snow was piled so high and was too heavy and thick to remove in one or two scoops.

My shoulders and upper back are TIRED. Right now I'm feeling chilled. I'm probably going to take a shower, try to warm up a bit. *shivers*

Any chance you can take a few pics of your sidewalk trench? I'd love to see that. And I know what you mean about getting cold after exertion. I go through that sometimes after I've been out riding the trike; at first I'm warm, but then gradually... brrr. Hope the warm shower helps!

Wow! Glad to hear you're doing okay. Hang in there, alright? Not even going to use a snow icon here. You've got enough to deal with!
