Mulder, it's me.
May. 22nd, 2012 01:11 pmDamn it. I need a Dana Scully user pic. Something either really badass, or with one of her glowing (but rare) smiles.
At my job, we just got a new employee. Her last name is Scully. And she has red hair. How cool is that?
I waited until after her first week before I asked her if she'd ever seen The X-Files. By the frown on her face, I'm guessing she thought I was teasing her as if it were a mean joke. She told me that has plagued her all her life. People hear her last name and want to take a picture of her. Teachers she had harassed her about it because they loved the show.
Which she has never seen.
So I talked about it a little bit, especially about how back then the Scully character was such a rarity amidst all the bombshell dumb-blonde sort of roles on TV. Dana Scully was smart, strong, practical and not always the emotional one of the partnership.
Guess what?
My coworker Scully has started watching The X-Files.
YAY!
Scully watching Scully. :D
Apparently her boyfriend used to watch it all the time with his family, so his vote (added with mine) swayed her. She was intrigued by what I said about the unusualness of the female role, and decided to check it out. So far she's watched the first 3 episodes, and finds the writing to be smart and interesting.
*rubs hands together wickedly*
Mwah ha haaaaaaa...
Another convert. I love it.
I warned her that she might not want to open that door with me, or we could start talking about it all the time. LOL. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing in my book. *GRIN*
Anyway, a big YAY for smart, engaging television that subverts expectations. We need more of that.

Very, very cool, Sherry.
Btw, I just started T3. Did the first scene, or at least the buik of it. Now I've got to switch to gainful employment activity. Then later I can go back and see whether where I ended was actually the end of the scene. I'm also starting to get a deeper sense of Eighteen. She was kind of an icon at first, but now I'm starting to see some complexity, which is always a good/fun sign.

Date: 2012-05-26 10:05 pm (UTC)If she really loves it, you know I'll try to get her to read one of your stories. :D
Regarding T2 and T3: it's on my list of things to read ASAP, but my parents came into town for the weekend so I may have to wait until they leave or read in spurts when I'm not doing stuff with them. Perhaps at the end of the evening after they've all gone to bed. I want to, because I HAVE TO KNOW what happens next!!!!

Date: 2012-05-26 11:05 pm (UTC)MWAHAHAHAHA! Few things are as satisfying has having hooked a reader. :-) T3 is in-process (and I've added a couple of sections so far today), but you're welcome to come in and check out what's there. There's been more progress with D4 and Eighteen, and I'll be interested to know what you make of it (i.e., whether you can figure out what's going on, or whether it's vague enough to twist the reader's brains in little knots and leave them cross-eyed.) If you wait until tonight, there should be at least one more section.
Hope things go as smoothly as possible with your parents. My fingers will definitely be crossed for you.

Date: 2012-05-26 01:04 pm (UTC)My eldest daughter has been borrowing my X-Files, she loves it.
I have been reading the X-File comics that were published by Topps awhile ago.

How are the comics? I have not seen those? Where do they start in the storyline, or are they a separate entity from the series canon?

Date: 2012-05-28 07:01 am (UTC)I think Dc has picked up the series now but I have not seen anything lately. I am hoping that they will still print the comics as some of the stories were really good.
