Hi, everyone!

I'm in the middle of searching for an apartment (not much available out there right now!) and revamping my portfolio website to focus on getting clients rather than on being a student looking for a job.

Here's my question:

Right now my website is very simply "Sherry Sink Web Design."

As a "company" name, that feels very beige wall to me. Should I come up with a creative business name instead of using my own name? Something that I can turn into a fun logo (or at least something that doesn't have the seemingly negative word "sink" in it, LOL)?

What makes you stand up and pay attention when looking for a business (whether it's looking for a plumber, or an apartment complex, or a clothing store, or any other need)? Does the name stick with you if it's something clever? Or does that matter to you in the long run?

I'm not sure I'm asking the right questions, but I'm hoping to stir up some discussion.

What do you think? I'd love to hear. Thanks!

Sherry Sink Web Design is a little bland. It's generally word of mouth that is the deciding point for me for whether to give someone my business.

Thanks for the input! :)

I'm planning on revamping my site, and I thought it might help if I came up with a name. Might give me a new design standpoint. Something not so generic.

I've had this conversation with myself and a few other people a few times about my photography business. I still have no good answer. Using your name allows you to be the brand- using a 'studio' name often looks more professional.

I have no useful advice but I feel-ya.

I rather like Sherry Sink Web Design but I understand you want something that will jump out and grab people. When it comes to choosing a business I tend to go by reputation rather more than anything else.

I'd go with a chosen biz name — just sit down with pen, paper & thoughts and brainstorm a name that means something to you... Going by just that, rather than 'X Web Design', also helps if you later decide you might like to brand your offer as more than web design, and it certainly also helps with the social branching out.
