Kickass women in fiction, film and/or TV?
Jun. 13th, 2015 08:43 pmLately I've been reading books with unconventional, kick-ass women as lead characters (like Lisbeth in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, or Katniss in The Hunger Games trilogy) and I've found myself feeling oddly empowered and more positive about myself when I surround myself with strong characters like that.
So it got me wondering: do you have other books, film or TV shows you'd recommend that have unusual and/or powerful female characters that you especially love? What's your favorite?
Any and all recommendations are welcome!

'True Grit' has an unusual and strong character, Mattie Ross that someone recommended to me for that very reason.

Film-wise, I like Legally Blonde, Lucy, Winter's Bone, Tomorrowland, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
As for books, there's The Girl who circumnavigated fairyland in a ship of her own making, the Lunar Chronicles, Abarat, I married Adventure, and the Lucky series by Jenn Nixon.
Oh comics, I love thee...A-Force, Ms. Marvel, Black Widow, Young Avengers, Runaways, Bitch Planet, Captain Marvel, Saga, Jem and The Wicked + the Divine. I'm also trying to track down Yoko Tsuno and start reading her adventures.
