*trying not to hyperventilate*

I have just registered for a "Web Design and Development" course at the local college, in time for their Summer term. And I paid upfront, so there's no turning back. Not in my mind!

*gulp*

I've taken day-long courses through my former employers for various jaw-splittingly boring topics, but I haven't been in an actual school or had homework or taken tests in... sixteen years?!? Is that right?

*recalculates the math* Yep, graduated from college in May 1994.

It's so stupid, but I'm terrified.

On the other side of it, this course is a topic that actually interests me. I've always wanted to learn how to build a Web site. Plus, it's only one class; I'm not enrolling in the entire Digital Media and Design program. (Not yet, anyway.) But most importantly, I've been out of work for two years now *headdesk headdesk* and obviously what I've been doing has not been working, so I feel the need to take action in another way, update my skills, try something new, step out on that proverbial shaky branch and jump.

I don't know where this will lead, but I need to do something different. I need to be bold. I need to take chances.

May the Universe have mercy on me.

;)

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by
The rules of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes... and leap!

Congratulations! That sounds really exciting as a class, and I hope things work out for you. Web design has changed so much, even since I graduated college in '06, and good for you for taking the first step!

Thank you for the encouragement!

What was your degree, if I may ask? :)

My degree was in international business, but I did some web design as part of a minor in journalism that I later abandoned. (I was the editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper first semester of my sophomore year, and they wouldn't let me test out of the prerequisite classes.)

Wishing you the best of luck, dear! And don't feel too intimidated; I know nothing about the particular college you'll be attending, but when I was in college, I was the odd one out in all my classes; most of my classmates were a good 10-15 years my senior. I have a feeling you'll fit right in! Plus, I just think it's great that you're going for something that will hopefully open up some opportunities for you down the line. :)
